Rules and Regulations
To ensure every dog's safety, security, and enjoyment the following are the list of requirements all dogs must meet to be accepted into Vizsland. Dogs MUST:
- Have a signed and approved application information form, a general release form and most recent vaccination records from your veterinarian. Forms are all obtained after your initial consultation with Vizsland. *
- Have a consultation with Vizsland,
- Be 1-year of age or older.
- Be spayed or neutered: Vets typically suggest neutering between 9-12 months. Exceptions are made as follows: 15 weeks for girls and 18 weeks for boys. Exemptions are made on a case-by-case basis with good cause.) **
- Be in good health.
- Have a copy on file of current vaccinations: rabies, distemper/parvo (DHLPP), and bordetella (kennel cough), et. al.) Please note that canine issues can be searched at Dog Health - Wikipedia.
- Pass a socialization evaluation period -- which occurs on your initial meeting and 2 subsequent daycare days at Vizsland.
- Attend daycare 2 times before your dog can be eligible for boarding. Board at least one night
before being allowed a separate, extended boarding period. - All overnight dogs must have a reservation. We will make exceptions for your Vizsla to stay with us due
to emergencies (e.g., sick relative or you get called away at short notice for a business trip).
Manner/Command Musts:
We are an activity-based daycare, unlike any other. This means dogs will be off-leash much of the time. On our grounds, in a dog park, and in the course of hikes or runs, we need to ensure all dogs know, at the very least, a STOP/ WHOA and COME command. Your V should respond immediately to a STOP or COME command and should theoretically respond readily to his/her NAME. (The commands you use may be different than those we use here so you can add this information about "Commands" in the Vizsland Personality Profile Documentation.
If your dog does not know these commands or the equivalent, we will provide them - or work with you to do so. This ensures their safety, in or out of our care (Some training and other things we will provide). We encourage every Vizsla owner to enroll as soon as possible into a good doggy Training/ Obedience class. We can provide you with names of several doggy obedience class providers.
** DC regulation states only fixed dogs can enter a dog park (other jurisdictions may have similar regulations.) We are not dogmatic but believe that highly educated and experienced Veterinarians provide the very best advice for when to fix a dog.
* Vizsland will provide you with an easy questionnaire to provide information about your V so we can know and better understand you pups daily environment!
